President's Corner - June 2007

Dear FTVA Members,

It's early June and plans for our 26th anniversary activities are well underway for 27-29 September. Twenty five years ago Major General Doyle Larson started the FTVA. AIA and FTVA have changed over years. During the Vietnam era USAFSS had personnel assigned at numerous locations in South East Asia and all over the world. Over the last twenty years AIA personnel have gone from being assigned over the world to deploying personnel under the Air Expeditionary Force (AEF) concept. Personnel are deployed based on support requested by Combatant Commanders and world situations. At the Spring Social at the old Kelly Officer Club FTVA honored eight AIA personnel who recently returned from deployments in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Mr. Don Gets the AIA Technical Advisor to Major General Craig Koziol was the guest speaker and one of the returnees. His speech was very moving and provided insight into the AEF concept way of supporting the Air Force mission of today.

On 7 May, the Program Action Directive (PAD) redesignated AIA as the Air Force Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency subordinate to Headquarters Air Force A2 as a FOA. When you attend the Remembrance Ceremony and other activities you will see changes to the HQs building. More information on the changes will be in the news letter.

Reunion week information is included with this Quarterly news letter. Nominations for the Hall of Honor have been requested and are due this month. Major General Paul Dittmer, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. will be the guest speaker at the Banquet. The banquet will be held at the Lackland AFB Gateway Club. The golf tournament will be held at the Alsatian Inn golf course in Castroville. I hope to see many of you during the reunion week to celebrate the new Air Force ISR Agency and honor those members that have given their lives in defense of our country. Please spread the word to all of your old friends. See you in September.

Remain in touch,

Bob Crabtree
